Recently Kate Baker from Manifest Gallery came to UC to give us information on how to correctly prepare our work for an exhibition. Kate covered everything from how we will get our work to the gallery to making and packing crates. There was a lot of information given to us that I personally would not have even thought to do for my work. She covered which packing mediums were the best for each type of art work, as well as what the outer shell and insides of the crates should be like to absorb shock and to be resistant to the elements like rain and dirt. It was also discussed how to handle works that have been damaged and what the galleries typically do and do not do for the artist as far as receiving, moving, repackaging and dealing with damaged pieces.
